First look at the UNSW Health Translation Hub
The proposed UNSW Health Translation Hub, part of the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct, is now on public exhibition.
The Environmental Impact Statements for UNSW Sydney’s Health Translation Hub (UNSW HTH), the Sydney Children’s Hospital Stage 1 and the Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre are now on public exhibition with the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment.
The UNSW HTH, a proposal jointly prepared by UNSW's Estate Management and Health Precincts, will bring together researchers, clinicians, educators, students and industry to reflect UNSW’s commitment to innovate and transform healthcare.
“UNSW has had teaching hospital affiliations on the Randwick Hospitals’ Campus for nearly 60 years. This new building and our commitment to significantly invest in the precinct will take our partnership to a new level.” said UNSW President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Jacobs.
“As well as improving health services to our local communities, the seamless physical and working integration between the hospitals and this new Health Translation Hub will enable us to compete at the forefront of health research and education internationally.
“The UNSW HTH will connect all academics on the UNSW Kensington Campus across the array of disciplines relevant to health into the Precinct. The involvement of our faculties of Engineering, Science, Business, Law & Justice and Arts, Design & Architecture, as well as Medicine & Health, opens unique and exciting opportunities.
“This connection will enable us to attract more outstanding clinicians, health professionals and academics to the Precinct; drive better healthcare, research and outcomes for patients; and generate economic benefits for the community,” he said.
Located on the corner of High Street and Botany Street, the UNSW HTH will feature:
- Purpose built spaces for researchers, educators, students and industry partners to work alongside clinicians
- Education, training and research rooms – supporting research and knowledge exchange
- Ambulatory care clinics and community facing health initiatives
- Food and beverage retail and supporting amenities including allied health services
- Opportunities for community and cultural events.
The UNSW HTH also features some thoughtful design elements:
- The main entrance is light-filled and generous in size, it will feature equitable and accessible entries for the UNSW HTH and outdoor plaza connecting through to Sydney Children’s Hospital Stage 1 and Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
- A generous atrium is proposed at the central heart of our building. The atrium will be a flexible space that is designed to be highly active, collaborative and connected, supporting multiple uses including seminar, exhibition, learning and retail to spark creative thinking and knowledge exchange.
- 2,500m2 of publicly open and green space that is welcoming for our whole community to learn, work and socialise. This space will allow activities for play, gathering and reflection.
- Pedestrian prioritised links including bridges to easily connect the new and existing buildings of the Precinct and the broader UNSW Kensington Campus.
