New COVID-19 national research register that will help determine health impacts over time

New COVID-19 national research register that will help determine health impacts over time

Over the last six months, UNSW Sydney and the George Institute for Global Health have developed a new Research Register, ‘Count Me In’, which is designed to better engage the broader Australian community in research.

The register will be put to use in the massive, coordinated and immediate research response to address the COVID-19 emergency.

While there has been significant investment in research addressing the acute management of severely ill patients in hospital, little has been done to help us investigate out-of-hospital opportunities for prevention and treatment.

The register will support a broad range of COVID-19-related research projects led by UNSW Sydney and partners around the country.

Among other benefits, the register will:

  • Link routinely collected health data to one million Australians willing to engage in research on COVID-19
  • Place UNSW Sydney researchers at the heart of the COVID-19 research response
  • Enable large-scale recruitment of participants across Australia for COVID-19 research
  • Define the medium- and long-term effects of COVID-19 on our health and wellbeing.
