UNSW's Learn to Lead Facilitators Announced for 2023

Learn to Lead, UNSW's free short leadership course aims to upskill UNSW alumni on learning to lead in a rapidly evolving technological world.

Specially curated and free for all UNSW alumni, this 100% online, self-paced course is a unique opportunity for UNSW graduates to expand their leadership knowledge and skills.

The theme for this year is leading the future, which recognises that technology will continue to revolutionise the business landscape and that today's leaders must be equipped with the knowledge, skills and vision to seize opportunities, drive growth and lead effectively. 

Every year an exceptional lineup of academics and business leaders facilitate different modules of the course, and this year is no exception.

Sam Kirshner, Associate Professor in the School Information Systems and Technology Management at UNSW Sydney will convene the course and is joined by:

  • Professor Richard Webby, Managing Director, Digital at Optus and Professor of Practice at UNSW’s Business School.

  • Professor Lyria Bennett Moses, Director of the UNSW Allens Hub for Technology, Law and Innovation and a Professor and Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Law and Justice at UNSW Sydney.

  • Travis Rice, who leads the Multimedia and Immersive Technologies teams, a senior management role at University of New South Wales.

  • Professor Mary-Anne Williams,  Michael J Crouch Chair in Innovation at UNSW and Director of the UNSW Business AI Lab and Deputy Director of the UNSW AI Institute.

Each facilitator will lead their own online module aimed at addressing various challenges leaders might face when it comes to technology management including leading transformation, responsible technology management, virtual leadership and leading business innovation.

This self-paced course is offered exclusively to UNSW alumni, and is designed in partnership with AGSM @ UNSW Business School - one of the world’s leading institutions for management education.

Professor Lyria Bennett Moses | Responsible Technology Management

Lyria is Director of the UNSW Allens Hub for Technology, Law and Innovation and a Professor and Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Law and Justice at UNSW Sydney. She is also co-lead of the Law and Policy theme in the Cyber Security Cooperative Research Centre and Faculty lead in the UNSW Institute for Cyber Security.  

Professor Mary-Anne Williams | Leading Business Innovation

Professor Mary-Anne Williams is a renowned expert in business innovation, artificial intelligence and decision making, with extensive experience and expertise in entrepreneurship, ethics, and law. She is the Michael J Crouch Chair in Innovation at UNSW and serves as the Director of the UNSW Business AI Lab and Deputy Director of the UNSW AI Institute. The Business AI Lab's mission is to unlock the benefits of equitable and responsible Business AI. 

Professor Richard Webby | Leading Transformation

Richard Webby is Managing Director, Digital at Optus and Professor of Practice at UNSW’s Business School. He is a passionate technologist who enjoys delivering great customer experiences, significant operational efficiencies, and revenue growth through the application of digital transformation.   

At Optus, Richard is a member of the Executive Committee and is responsible for directing the commercial activities of the digital channels to increase e-commerce, digital self-service, and customer engagement.  He leads digital strategy and execution across the web, mobile application, data analytics and digital AI teams. 

Travis Rice | Virtual Leadership

Travis Rice leads the Multimedia and Immersive Technologies teams, a senior management role at University of New South Wales. 
 
Driving concept development and future directions within the University multimedia environments, he is focused on the strategic delivery and support for Immersive, Multimedia and Emerging Technologies (Multimedia, Audio and Video technologies, VR, AR, 3D Printing, Robotics etc) across UNSW.
